Whistler Locals - Josh Reynolds
There are moments in life when the need for change becomes undeniable. For Josh Reynolds, that moment came when he decided to take a bold step: quit his job and move to Whistler, British Columbia. Today, Josh's friendly personality and distinctive style have made him a popular figure on social media.
I joined Josh for a riding day with my camera to capture his style and know why he chose Whistler and the story behind his decision. Here’s what he shared:
- Where are you from and where do you live now?
I’m from Tadley, England. I’m currently living in Whistler, BC.
How did you get into mountain biking?
I spent my teenage years riding freestyle BMX, until I gave that up when I got older and discovered girls and partying. I eventually started battling with depression, until 5 years after putting my BMX down my girlfriend at the time dragged me out trail riding with her friends. I had never touched a mountain bike before but I knew right away that I needed to be back on 2 wheels. It helped me to balance that dark place, not to say it fixed me, but it has definitely shaped my entire life today.
Where’s your favorite place to ride?
Whistler Bike Park without a doubt. I moved halfway around the world specifically to ride here, although Coast Gravity Park comes in at a close second.
Who inspires you?
Any rider that has that effortless style that can’t be taught. Y’know, like Semenuk (obviously).
What do you enjoy doing away from bikes?
If I’m not riding I’ll either be tinkering with my truck, skiing in the winter, or nerding out over just about anything to do with Lord of the Rings, Star Wars or Ancient History.
What is your biggest accomplishment?
Mountain bike wise, some friends and I had a 10 page article in the UK RedBulletin magazine a few years back. Seeing our words and photos in print was pretty cool. Biggest accomplishment in general, I would say is quitting my 9-5 engineering job and moving to Whistler.
What’s your favourite motto or saying?
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle - Ian Mclaren
Cheers to all of the people I’ve met through the sport and I’m grateful for the places is has taken me. - Josh
