The design incorporates a belt drive, likely Atherton is joining the race for the $100,000 prize offered by Gates along with other teams like the recently announced "AON Racing Team" with Reece Wilson. This aligns with our 2025 rumours, as the Athertons might not be the only team modifying their downhill bikes to feature a gearbox this year. Additionally, a thin cable running from the handlebars to the headtube suggests the use of a Pinion SmartShift gearbox.
